Billy Idol Unleashes “77” Featuring Avril Lavigne — New Track Rocks Toward Dream Into It Album Release
Rock icon Billy Idol has teamed up with pop-punk queen Avril Lavigne for a high-energy new single titled “77”, released today as the latest preview from his upcoming album, Dream Into It.
The track roars with punk nostalgia and a modern punch, perfectly merging Idol’s sneering delivery with Lavigne’s bold vocals. “It came out really fantastic,” Idol told Ultimate Classic Rock. “She’s incredible, and the song just came alive. It was already good with me on it, but it got three times better with her on it.”
Fans can catch the duo performing “77” live for the first time on Jimmy Kimmel Live! this April 28, just three days after the album’s official release on April 25. The performance is expected to spotlight their undeniable chemistry and pay tribute to the punk attitude both artists built careers on.
Dream Into It marks Idol’s first new studio album in over a decade, and promises a deeply personal journey. “The album is a little bit about the story of my life,” Idol explained. “It’s almost in chronological order… It’s telling a story. That’s what Dream Into It is about.” This narrative approach gives the record a thematic arc, trading hit-chasing tracklists for emotional resonance and reflection.
Idol is also gearing up for a major North American tour with Joan Jett, kicking off just days after the album release. And on June 10, a documentary titled Billy Idol Should Be Dead will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, followed by a live set from the man himself in New York City.
Between the new music, a star-powered tour, and a potential Rock Hall induction, 2025 is shaping up to be one of Billy Idol’s most electrifying years yet.
