Carlos Santana Hospitalized for Dehydration Before San Antonio Show, Concert Postponed
Carlos Santana is recovering after being hospitalized for dehydration just hours before he was scheduled to perform in San Antonio, Texas on April 22. The 77-year-old guitar icon was at the venue for soundcheck when he reportedly experienced a medical event.
According to a statement from Santana’s manager Michael Vrionis, posted on the venue’s website and shared by TMZ, the condition was not life-threatening and the decision to postpone the concert was made “out of an abundance of caution.” Vrionis reassured fans, stating, “Mr. Santana is doing well and is looking forward to coming back to San Antonio soon as well as continuing his US Tour.”
The San Antonio Fire Department also confirmed to TMZ that Santana’s condition was dehydration, and footage reportedly shows the music legend being transported from the venue via ambulance.
This is not the first time Santana has dealt with a health scare on tour. Back in July 2022, a concert in Detroit was abruptly halted when the guitarist collapsed onstage due to heat exhaustion and dehydration. He postponed several shows during that run but returned to touring shortly afterward.
Earlier this year, Santana was also forced to delay the start of a new Las Vegas residency after suffering a fall at home.
Despite this latest setback, Santana’s next performance — as of now — remains scheduled for April 23 in Sugarland, Texas. Fans are encouraged to check with the venue for updates, as rescheduling details for the San Antonio show are expected soon.
Santana’s resilience continues to inspire fans, as does his dedication to performing well into his seventh decade of life. Here’s hoping the Latin-rock pioneer is back on stage with his signature guitar magic in no time.
