Joe Perry Opens Up: Steven Tyler ‘Can’t Tour’ with Aerosmith, But One Last Show Might Happen

Aug 13, 2025 | Interesting News

In a revelation that has left rock fans at the edge of their seats, Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has shed light on the band’s future—or lack thereof—on the touring circuit. Following the abrupt end of their 2023 Peace Out farewell tour, Perry disclosed that frontman Steven Tyler is not keen on hitting the road again. Tyler’s larynx injury, which forced the band to cancel their tour after just three shows, seems to have taken a toll that could be insurmountable.

Perry, speaking to WBUR, revealed, “I’ve been spending a lot of time with Steven and he just doesn’t want to tour and he can’t tour. It’s tough.” The guitarist acknowledged the demanding nature of Aerosmith tours, stating, “I’m not sure I would want to go out and book another 40-city tour. It’s a long way to the top and staying there takes it out of you.”

Despite the gloomy outlook on future tours, Perry hasn’t completely closed the chapter on Aerosmith performances. While a full-scale tour is off the table, the possibility of a final show remains alive. “I would bet that there’s an Aerosmith show left,” Perry hinted, echoing his comments from a chat with radio host Eddie Trunk earlier this year. “I know there’s gotta be at least another Aerosmith gig, and I’m not looking forward to putting the set list together for that one.”

As for the notion of another Las Vegas residency akin to their Deuces Are Wild shows, Perry remains cautiously skeptical. “I’ll never say never, but I wouldn’t bet on it—no pun intended,” he remarked. The rocker emphasized the importance of personal priorities at this stage in life: “You really have to want to be out there and we’re all at that point of: How do you want to live? How do you want to spend the next however long you’ve got?”

In the interim, fans won’t be left completely high and dry. Perry is gearing up for a 2025 solo tour with the Joe Perry Project. The lineup, featuring Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford, touring keyboardist/backing vocalist Buck Johnson, Stone Temple Pilots bassist Robert DeLeo, and the Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson on lead vocals, promises to keep the spirit of rock alive.

Whether it’s one last Aerosmith hurrah or Perry’s solo endeavors, the music will play on. But for now, we’ll have to keep our eyes peeled and ears open for any more whispers from the boys of Boston.
