In a world where rock legends are often larger than life, the reality of their human vulnerabilities occasionally comes to the forefront. This truth was recently underscored as the BBC decided to pull a much-anticipated documentary about the legendary Ozzy Osbourne, respecting the wishes of his family. The film, titled ‘Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home,’ was set to air on BBC One and iPlayer on August 18, 2025, but was replaced last minute by an episode of ‘Fake Or Fortune.’ The BBC, in a gesture of empathy, stated: ‘Our sympathies are with the Osbourne family at this difficult time. We are respecting the family’s wishes to wait a bit longer before airing this very special film. The new transmission date will be confirmed shortly.’

The documentary was designed to offer a moving and inspirational glimpse into the last chapter of Ozzy’s life. Filmed over three years, it captures the Osbourne family’s roller-coaster journey as they navigate Ozzy’s health challenges, their dream of returning to the U.K., and Ozzy’s relentless spirit as he strives to perform one last time. With exclusive access to the family, the film promises moments of love, laughter, and tears, highlighting their unique dynamics and indomitable spirit. Clare Sillery, BBC’s head of commissioning for documentaries, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to film with the family, hoping the documentary would bring comfort and joy to Ozzy’s fans while celebrating his extraordinary life.

Executive producers Ben Wicks and Colin Barr of Expectation, the production company behind the film, reflected on the privilege of spending the last few years with Ozzy and his family. They emphasized Ozzy’s unwavering love for his family and his mischievous, honest nature that endeared him to millions worldwide. The documentary, initially conceived as a series titled ‘Home To Roost,’ evolved into the one-hour special as Ozzy’s health deteriorated.

Ozzy Osbourne passed away on July 22, 2025, due to a heart attack. His death certificate also revealed his battles with coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease. ‘Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home,’ produced by Expectation in association with JOKS Productions Limited for the BBC, is a poignant tribute to a rock icon whose legacy transcends music. Fans around the globe await the new airing date, eager to honor the Prince of Darkness’s legacy.
