Paul Simon’s Tour Halted by ‘Intense Back Pain’: A Rock Icon’s Struggle

Jun 30, 2025 | Interesting News

In a surprising turn of events, legendary musician Paul Simon has been compelled to cancel two anticipated shows in Philadelphia owing to what his team describes as ‘intense back pain.’ The cancellation, affecting the shows scheduled for June 28 and 29 at the Academy of Music, has left fans hopeful for Simon’s swift recovery.

Paul Simon, known for his groundbreaking work as part of the duo Simon & Garfunkel, and his illustrious solo career, issued a heartfelt statement expressing his regret over the situation. ‘Regretfully, Paul Simon must cancel two shows tonight June 28 and tomorrow night June 29 at Philadelphia’s Academy of Music,’ the statement read. ‘Paul has been struggling with chronic and intense back pain. Today it became unmanageable and demands immediate attention.’

The news comes just after Simon successfully performed the first of three planned shows in Philadelphia. Despite the setback, Simon’s team remains optimistic. ‘We are hopeful after this minor surgical procedure which has been scheduled in the next few days, Paul will be able to complete the tour as well as look into returning to make up these dates,’ the statement added.

This isn’t the first health challenge Simon has faced recently. Earlier in 2023, he revealed the loss of hearing in one ear, a condition that has made performing live increasingly challenging. Yet, the resilient artist launched his Quiet Celebration tour in April, playing to intimate venues. His setlist has been a careful blend of his latest work, including a full-album rendition of 2023’s introspective ‘Seven Psalms,’ alongside a selection of beloved solo and Simon & Garfunkel classics.

The tour is set to resume on July 7 in Long Beach, California, with 15 dates remaining, including a highly anticipated five-night run in Los Angeles and a three-night finale in Seattle. Fans remain hopeful that Simon’s health will allow him to continue sharing his musical gifts with the world.

As Paul Simon navigates these health challenges, the music community rallies around him, hoping for a speedy recovery and a return to the stage. After all, the music world is always a little brighter with Simon’s presence.
