Stevie Nicks Is Writing Her Most Personal Album Yet — A ‘Ghost Record’ Born From Fire, Solitude, and Memory
Stevie Nicks is channeling solitude, survival, and stardust into her next project — and it promises to be her most personal yet. Speaking during her induction into the Pollstar Hall of Fame on Wednesday, the rock legend revealed that she is actively working on a new album, one she referred to as a “ghost record.”
The inspiration came unexpectedly, as Nicks spent 92 days in a hotel following her evacuation during the recent Los Angeles wildfires. Though her Southern California home was spared, she found herself in limbo — alone, restless, and creatively awakened. “I was sitting in a hotel for 92 days,” she said. “At some point… I thought, ‘You need to go back to work.’ And I did.”
That push back into creation led to a burst of songwriting — seven songs so far, all deeply autobiographical. “They are not airy-fairy songs that you are wondering who they’re about,” she explained. “They’re real stories of memories of mine, of fantastic men.”
Adding a layer of mystique and meaning is a memory Nicks shared about Prince, who famously collaborated with her on “Stand Back.” During one visit, Nicks brought him a gift — a gold necklace — to which Prince replied: “You always bring me a gift, you never bring me you.” Those words, Nicks says, now ring in her head as she pours more of herself into this new material.
Nicks’ last original studio album was 2011’s In Your Dreams, co-written and co-produced with Dave Stewart of Eurythmics. In 2014, she released 24 Karat Gold: Songs From the Vault, a collection of unreleased demos revisited with fresh production.
This forthcoming project, however, feels different — more rooted in memory, reflection, and storytelling than anything she’s released before. While no release date has been shared yet, Nicks’ fans can look forward to a rare and raw chapter from one of rock’s most enchanting voices.
