The Dead Daisies Turn Muscle Shoals Magic Into Gritty Blues Gold in New Documentary

Sometimes music history doesn’t knock — it barges right in. That’s exactly what happened when The Dead Daisies wandered into FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals and accidentally recorded their most soul-drenched album yet, Lookin’ For Trouble. Now, fans can witness the raw, behind-the-scenes creation of that record with a powerful new 20-minute documentary that peels back the layers of blues, brotherhood, and Muscle Shoals legend.

Far from a standard studio recap, this mini-film — shot on location in Alabama — is equal parts road movie and roots revival. With never-before-seen footage of the band rolling into town and lighting up the studio, viewers are treated to candid interviews with vocalist John Corabi, guitarist Doug Aldrich, and bassist Michael Devin, as they trace the fingerprints of the blues masters who inspired the project.

Producer Marti Frederiksen pushed the band to ditch the polish and go live — minimal overdubs, just pure, untamed energy. The result? A molten-hot collection of blues classics brought back to life with electric sincerity, including Robert Johnson’s “Crossroads,” John Lee Hooker’s “Boom Boom,” and B.B. King’s aching “The Thrill Is Gone.”

Corabi calls it “our love letter to the blues,” and it shows. From Muddy Waters to Albert King, Lookin’ For Trouble doesn’t just pay homage — it brings those spirits into the room and lets them wail.

Released via Fame/Malaco Records, the album has earned buzz for its authenticity and power, with Raised By Cassettes calling the single “Crossroads” a “high-energy performance that bridges past and present.”

For fans of blues and rock history, this documentary is essential viewing — not just to see how Lookin’ For Trouble was made, but to feel it.

“When I first heard blues, it was through bands like Zeppelin and the Stones,” Corabi says. “The deeper I researched my heroes, the deeper I got into the history of this music. The blues is the soul of rock ‘n’ roll — it’s in everything we do.”
